Abstract

The purpose of this study was to serve as a basis for more successful nursin¡Ìt intervention classification in the professional domain of home health care, by applying Saba¢¥s Home Health Care Classification(HHCC) to the actual home health care service offered by hospitals, by examining what kind of nursing intervention was performed by home visiting nurses and how many times each kind of nursing intervention was performed, and finally by testing if HHCC would be suitable for our country¢¥s situation.
The subjects of this study were the 206 people who offered home health care service from the 9 home visiting nurses who served at the home health care department of S General Hospital in Seoul.
The research design employed in this study was a survey type research. The survey was carried out for 28 days from February 1 through 28, 1999. The test instrument used in this study was the questionnaires made on the basis of the Korean standard version of Saba(1991)¢¥s Home Health Care Classification(HHCC) by Park Hyun Aae, et al., which was provided on the Internet homepage. HHCC was developed by Saba, et al., at the college of nursing, Georgetown University, from 1988 to 1991. Park Hvun Aae and other experts developed its Korean standard version through four stages to test the validity of its Korean terms and classification system.
For collecting data, the subjects were asked to consider what kind of nursing intervention was performed by themselves in home visiting, and to select all the nursing intervention activities made by them from among four nursing activity patterns: (1) assessment(collecting and analyzing health-related data, (2) direct care(performing treatment activities), (3) education(providing knowledge and skill), and (4) management (controlling and making inquiry).
In data analysis, real number and percentage were used to determine the general characteristics of both home visiting nurses and patients under home health care, and nursing intervention¢¥s frequency and percentage were calculated. The statistical analysis was made by SPSS program.
The findings of this study were as follows:
1. The subjects paid a home visit 591 times, offering 23,108 cases of home nursing intervention. And they provided 39.1 cases of nursing intervention per a time of visit.
2. 561 kinds of nursing intervention, which belonged to 20 nursing components, were performed by them.
